Curved blue lines bend the space around a kneeling figure, while a dark, cloud-like form gathers behind her. The yellow glow draws the eye through the painting. In Maria’s account, the work gives physical form to a distorted sense of reality. Even when the figure no longer has the strength to stand, she keeps looking toward the light.
